Fresh roses grace the tables of this spellbinding to the senses restaurant. From live jazz on the rooftop to a Frank Sinatra style playlist, the mood is conversational and inviting. The only thing missing is the proper greeting. It is an emblematic piece of Mérida’s culinary scene, however the service can be inconsistent.
The menu is a fusion of local ingredients and deep-rooted local cooking techniques with modern twists. The presentation deserves an honorable mention, designed and planned just as the decor and architecture. Our first entree was the chicken breast with “ibes” (a local white bean cooked crunchy) and Brie cheese. The perfectly prepared chicken will rival any celebrity kitchen in the world with its moistness, textures and dance to the taste buds. Next up the Pechuga de Pato, a Duck w/ local Valladolid Sausage, dope- if you enjoy duck. You can’t miss out on the Chicharrón de Pulpo to start, a fried octopus blended epic spice and tomatoes.
If you will be enjoying breakfast at this boutique hotel and restaurant, we recommend something light and refreshing- fresh fruit plate, cáfe (coffee), and on-site baked breads. Fresh squeezed juice is a nice addition. Had your hopes on something more traditional, indulge in The Huevos Motuleños. Tip: There is live jazz on the patio for Sunday breakfast.
For dessert, we tried the Chocolate Soufflé. Damn, this dish could be a dangerous thing to be around everyday. Edible rose petals and rose ice cream make this perfect soufflé beyond comparison.
The restaurant has produced its own wine, a red blend hand-crafted by owner Carol Kolosz. It is a nice Mexican wine, however there are a lot of Mexican wines to explore on the menu. If you have not sipped Mexican wine, you will be in for a pleasant surprise.
The restaurant’s elegance is timeless, and the quality of the dishes is spot on. The downsides, service can be slow, but this is Mexico. Dinners are supposed to last for hours. The dollar goes a long way with the array of five star culinary tastes.
Great for big parties, romance, or dinner with the family. There is something for everyone on the menu.
